2025 Legends & Learning Leadership Graduate Courses

ED 692 (Black Hills State University) and ED 592 (Dakota State University)

The South Dakota Hall of Fame is proud to partner with Black Hills State University (BHSU) and Dakota State University (DSU) to present Legends & Learning graduate courses for elementary teachers (kindergarten through 5th-grade) this summer.

This graduate course is the same content, provided at two different times, one course in Rapid City, and one in Chamberlain, with higher education options. During this course, we will introduce kindergarten through 5th-grade teachers to the South Dakota Hall of Fame’s Legends & Learning Program, where the rich histories of more than eighteen Legends are embedded into a teacher resource that can be easily included in a variety of curricula. The Legends are select individuals who have been inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame for their impact throughout the state. This course is directly relevant for 4th-grade teachers and can benefit kindergarten through 5th-grade teachers as well.

Teachers enrolled in the graduate course will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore how the South Dakota Hall of Fame inspires future leaders

  • Participate in the Legends & Learning lesson plans

  • Learn about the Inductees highlighted in the program

  • Establish how this program can benefit their classrooms

  • Learn how to customize the curriculum for their classrooms and grades

Participation in this leadership course offers attendees one graduate credit if they register, participate, and receive a grade.

Legends & Learning Graduate Leadership Course ED 692-Black Hills State University

In partnership with Black Hills State University, this class will be held at the University Center in Rapid City, June 17, 18, and 19.

When: In-Person Tuesday, June 17th and Wednesday, June 18th, 2025 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM and Thursday, June 19th, 2025 Online

Where: In Rapid City, SD at the Black Hills State University Campus at 4300 Cheyenne Boulevard, Box Elder, SD 57719

Credit Hours: 1 Graduate Credit Hour

Cost: BHSU official Registration and $40 Payment to BHSU will be completed and collected on the first day of class

Legends & Learning Graduate Leadership Course ED 592 - Dakota State University

In partnership with Dakota State University, this class will be held at the South Dakota Hall of Fame Visitor & Education Center in Chamberlain, July 9, 10, and 11.

When: In-Person Tuesday, June 3rd and Wednesday, June 4th, 2025, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, and Thursday, June 5th, 2025, Online

Where:  In Chamberlain, SD, at the SD Hall of Fame Visitor and Education Center at 1480 S. Main, Chamberlain, SD 57325

Credit Hours: 1 Graduate Credit Hour

Cost: $40

To register, you will use the Register for ED 592 DSU Course below and complete the Workshop Course Application Summer 2025.

  • Under - DSU Course Selection, find and select the course:

    • 2025 Summer - ED 592 Topics: South Dakota Hall of Fame Leadership with Michelle McGrath Hovland. CRN 56200 for 1 credit

  • Submit after completing the Electronic Signature

After submitting the completed application, a separate page will come up to enter credit card information.

 You will receive communications from the DSU Office of Online Education to confirm the registration has been processed, confirm your name is listed correctly in the SD Board of Regents system for class roster and transcript purposes, and to provide instructions on how to access your transcript once the final grade has been posted at the end of the course.
