Experience the rich history of South Dakota this summer on your next road trip across the state! The South Dakota Hall of Fame Visitor & Education Center showcases:
In-depth exhibits full of South Dakota history. Our Exhibits cover a wide array of topics, including a beautiful display detailing the creation of the Dignity of Earth and Sky sculpture, located in Chamberlain
A spacious gift shop featuring uniquely South Dakotan gifts
The stories of the 782 amazing individuals who have made an impact in South Dakota and beyond
Seasonal events celebrating a culture of excellence, like our yearly art show, showcasing artistic excellence from across the state
While you are in the area for a visit, you won’t want to miss all Chamberlain has to offer like Dignity of Earth and Sky, a sculpture on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River. This 50-foot high stainless steel statue was created by South Dakota artist laureate Dale Claude Lamphere, who was inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame in 1987. Dignity depicts an Indigenous woman in a Plains-style dress proudly holding a star quilt which catches the morning light in a stunning display.
There are many ways to enjoy the area. Located at the crossing of Interstate 90 and the Missouri River, Chamberlain and Oacoma have provided services and rest to travelers for generations. Al’s Oasis, for instance, is a historic rest area that has one of the best restaurants in the state. But the area is more than just a rest stop–offering breathtaking outdoor spaces, and outdoor recreation opportunities, to cultural centers, restaurants, and beautiful getaways like the Arrowwood Resort & Conference Center at Cedar Shore.
