South Dakota Hall of Fame CEO, Greta Chapman, Announces Retirement

Greta Chapman, CEO of the South Dakota Hall of Fame

Greta Chapman, CEO of the South Dakota Hall of Fame, announced that she will retire in the spring of 2022.  Chapman has led the organization for the last 8 years.

In a letter to the Board and Hall supporters, Chapman said, “As an organization for over 45 years, it has been a privilege to engage with role models that chase dreams to make South Dakota one of the best states in our nation… It has been a once-in-a-lifetime position and the best position I could have imagined leading to my next chapter.”

Board Chair Marci Burdick said, “Greta Chapman has led a period of dynamic growth at the South Dakota Hall of Fame and elevated our Mission of ‘Championing a Culture of Excellence in South Dakota’ by expanding programs and outreach. The Board has its work cut out for it as we begin the process to select a successor who can build on Greta’s work.”

The South Dakota Hall of Fame was established in 1974 as the Cowboy & Western Heritage Hall of Fame. The current name was adopted in 1986 when the Hall’s mission was broadened to capture and preserve the stories of people from all walks of life who have made a significant contribution to the State. In addition to the annual induction of notable South Dakotans, the Hall’s programs have expanded to include robust online offerings like Legends & Learning, a free program used in South Dakota Schools.
