What Does it Mean to Be a Champion of Excellence?
Every year, up to ten exceptional South Dakotans are inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame for their extraordinary achievements. These individuals inspire generations, shaping a brighter future for our state. Our inductees come from all walks of life, representing communities across South Dakota, and each nomination begins with people like you.
But what does it mean to nominate a champion of South Dakota? What does it look like to champion a culture of excellence?
Simply put, South Dakota Hall of Fame inductees represent the pinnacle of excellence. To us, a culture of excellence is rooted in shared values—an unwavering commitment to becoming the best version of ourselves, day after day. It's a mindset, a dedication to acquiring the skills necessary to reach ambitious goals, and the perseverance to keep going, no matter the challenges.
Excellence is often reflected in those who elevate their communities–by creating jobs, engaging in philanthropy, or contributing to the arts. Our inductees have given back in ways that resonate far beyond their immediate surroundings, sparking a ripple effect of inspiration that touches countless lives.
We’re continually moved by inductees who have made lasting impacts statewide through their life's work. Leaders like Dennis Daugaard, Dick Muth, and Dr. José-Marie Griffiths exemplify the excellence we celebrate—they’ve, shaped policy, created jobs, and cultivated future leaders, all while laying the foundation for a brighter tomorrow in South Dakota.
