Dzenan Berberovic Named to Catholic Health Association’s 2023 Class of Tomorrow’s Leaders

South Dakota Hall of Fame Board Director, Dzenan Berberovic

Dzenan Berberovic, Chief Philanthropy Officer at Avera Health, has been named among the 2023 Class of Tomorrow’s Leaders by the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA).

Berberovic joins nine other emerging leaders from across the country to receive this honor, and the class will be recognized virtually during CHA Assembly 2023.

Since becoming Chief Philanthropy Officer in March 2020, Berberovic has led his team to achieve record-setting fundraising years in 2020, 2021 and 2022, raising a total of over $118 million over these three years alone to support those who trust Avera with their care. Under his leadership, the Avera Foundation has been recognized by the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) with High Performer and System High Performer distinctions. High Performers represent the top 25% of health care foundations and philanthropy offices throughout the United States and Canada.

Also under his leadership, the Avera Foundation has successfully completed campaigns to support Avera’s strategic agenda while growing the system’s enduring culture of gratitude. Berberovic joined Avera in 2017.

“Dzenan embodies the Avera mission, in concrete ways that promote and extend the healing ministry of Jesus. His welcoming personality and collaborative leadership have transformed the Avera Foundation from many separate foundations into a single entity ready to use leading-edge approaches to address real problems for the persons and communities who turn to us for care. Dzenan’s tireless work has elevated Avera philanthropy to a new level. We know this success will continue for years to come,” said Bob Sutton, President and CEO, Avera Health.

The Tomorrow’s Leaders Program was created in 2011 to identify and recognize promising young leaders who will provide strong leadership and dedication to Catholic health care. Each class consists of an impressive cadre of dedicated, high-performing individuals who already have demonstrated commitment to advancing the healing mission. Nominees for the Tomorrow’s Leaders Program must be currently working in a ministry organization and must be age 40 or younger at time of nomination.

“This recognition belongs to the thousands of benefactors I have met throughout my career, the colleagues I serve at Avera and our dedicated teammates across the ministry. They inspire me every day. This is work that matters because it helps people. It is an honor to serve Avera alongside an incredibly dedicated team that is entrusted to lead our philanthropic agenda. Together, with our many benefactors, we make life better for those we serve each day.” Berberovic said.

The annual Catholic Health Assembly is the largest gathering of Catholic health care leaders in the United States. This virtual, two-day event is hosted in an interactive platform where attendees engage with speakers, connect with colleagues, and create new friendships. Assembly 2023 will take place virtually June 12-13, 2023. Learn more at https://www.chausa.org/assembly-2023
